Down comforters provide you with a luxurious natural warmth that few other materials can. Down is known for its insulating properties and ability to spring back to its original shape, that is why it is used in comforters, blankets, pillows, and jackets. When purchasing a down duvet be sure to get one that is at least a 200 thread count or higher. If you go any lower than that you may have feathers poking through at you. This can be very unpleasant when you are trying to sleep. Another important thing to look for when buying a down quilt is if it's made using a baffle box construction. Baffles give the down feathers in your comforter the opportunity to remain at their fullest loft. Always look for "baffled boxes" or "baffled construction" when buying your down filled comforter.

It is important to get yourself a comforter cover for your down duvet. This will protect it from dirt and wear as well as adding a decorative touch to your bedroom. When it's time to wash your comforter cover, just take it off your down quilt and throw it in the wash like you would your sheets. But when it comes to your down duvet, it's going to cost you between 30 and 40 dollars to dry-clean, so the less you have to wash it, the better. That's why comforter covers are so important.

Down duvets are a worthwhile investment. You will have it for years and if you decide to change your bedroom decor, you simply have to change your duvet cover.
